Keyframe Theatre

The concept for this project was to make a movie theatre that focused on one of the most underrated cinema forms; Animation. For too long has animated movies been seen as a lesser alternative to live-action. With a separate category for the best animated film at the Oscars and constant live-action remakes of classic animated movies, it was about time these movies got the respect they deserve.

My goal for the branding was to make it appeal to all audiences as to stray away from the stigma that animated movies are only for kids. I chose a colorful palette since it would allow me to represent a wide variety of different movies but kept things uniform by making all the colors slightly desaturated and similar tonal values. I was greatly inspired by the designer saul bass who is a staple of early cinema animations and used his highly stylized minimalist design approach when creating my illustrations.

Moving Posters

I wanted a way to entice people to come to the theatre and what better way to do that than with animation. Animation allows one to tell a narrative and really immerse the viewer into what they are watching. By creating a compelling story through motion I am able to create an ad that will connect with viewers making them more likely to come to the theatre.

Social Media

For the social media, I wanted to give the posts and stories the same expressive high contrast feel as the other brand deliverables. They served to highlight certain events such as movie marathons and special anniversary viewings of classic animated movies.

Process

I approached my animation using the same steps that traditional or 2D animated films use. This process is broken down into 3 main parts, pre-production, production, and post-production. Each step is vital to the finished product and without it, the animation would not work.
